1. Three SMART goals with respect to year 11 subject choices
(1) Having wide and in depth research on my future career (Initial wage, several companies I want to get in with my career, various universities and what specifically do for the career) before the subject choice interview via Internet research, books and advices from adults who are related to the careers.
(2) Specifying and defining subjects by designing a mind map of what I really desire to do or like to do now. What I am aiming for living. Whether the subjects will be suitable for me.
(3) Choosing wide and different areas of subjects so I have opportunities in many different areas for ranges of choices, which reduce the boredom. (Balance in areas: creative, academic and physical)
2. Reflection on the year 11 subject information evening
The school gives opportunity of choosing between two different system of examination which are IB and SACE. On the night, I had listened to good and bad about both systems. I originally planned to do SACE due to influence from my sister however, when I was listening to about IB, I considered myself in challenging myself with undergoing with IB.
I believe the subject information night was really necessary as I got to know more about differences in each system. The fact that, in IB, the percentages of the scorings are biased into more exam scores however, in SACE, the percentages of scoring in exams were much lower than the internal school marks. Only about 30% of the exam score is counted for the final marks and all the rest are the internal school marks. In order to make decisions between which systems of examinations, I had to consider myself on what type of learner I am, wether I am more familiar and suited for taking exam or internal school works (assessments and unit tests).
On the night, the teachers gave information of conversion of system after year 11. Whether it is to IB to SACE or SACE to IB. The conversion of system from SACE to IB in year 12 is not possible as IB is 2years course however; conversion from IB to SACE in year12 is possible. There are must-have-to-do kind of subjects throughout SACE which are Personal Learning Plan and Research Project. PLP starts in year 10 in order to help career path ways in the future. Therefore, wether you do IB or SACE, PLP is a helpful subject to do.
After about two weeks of considering between the two systems, I finally decided to try SACE system after considering that I can cope well with internal school markings. In year11 SACE course, literacy and numeracy must have to be chosen. I am willing to do ESL for literacy due to my weakness in English. There are 4 more subjects I can choose and I wanted to choose Chemistry, Biology, a semester of creative art/ visual art and dancing. There is a balance of academic, creativity and physical activity are present in the subject choice I am willing to make. Also, before selecting the subjects, I was considering mostly on what I want career I am interested in first. I am interested in industrial designing and industrial designing, thus continuing art subjects are necessary for me.
3. Three questions I am willing to ask at my selected sessions at Careers’ night;
1) What kinds of subjects are there if I am required to do in my schooling year, if I was to consider myself in the career?
2) The careers are well paid and acknowledged to the others?
3) If I have a lot of participation in competitions in designing, is there a higher possibility of getting employed into the design types of career?
Throughout asking questions, I noticed that there are no fixed subjects I have to do in high school years (12 and 11). However, doing art as my subject, will help me with keeping up with generation of ideas. The wages of the career varies as sometime when the ideas were well generated and becomes real crowd-like idea. There are higher possibility of getting employed into the design types of careers if do more competitions and build your skills.
4. Careers I am interested in are industrial designer, interior architecture and architecture.
a) The industrial designer creates and produces commercial, medical and industrial products. Also carries out the development of the products and works on the models and phototypes of designs as well.
Required subjects: none
b) The interior architecture apllies creative and technical solutions within a structure to achieve a built interior environment and home lifestyle enhancement.
Required subjects: physics, art, ESL
ATAR at Sydney uni: 85%
c) The architecture connects with the design and construction of a building, or group of buildings and the space within the site surrounding the buildings, that have as their principal purpose human occupancy or use.
Required subjects: physics, art, ESL
ATAR at Sydney uni: 95%
ATAR at Adelaide uni: 80%

5. Evaluation and Reflection of subject choice interview
There were various steps of progression I undergo in decision-making for the subject choice. Throughout the interview, I found out that, choosing subjects in year 11 and 12 really are dependent on the career I am willing to get in. I took about 2 weeks of preparation time before the interview. I firstly have to look for my interests and capabilities in every aspects of life in order to generate what types of career would be suitable for me. My interests were designing, making props and my best ability is an organization. Then I looked for the careers I would be interested in and willing to continue for 30 years of lives which were areas of designing. I took reserach in depth about the designing careers. I found out that, wages of the desingers varies, whether you have ideas and build up skills and very dependent on the amounts of designs or ideas produce by the designers. There are no fixed subjects to do in year 11 or 12 however, doing visual art or creative art will be helpful for geneartion of ideas. ATAR of architecture degree for example at Melbourne or Sydney uni are around 85 to 95 however in Adeliade uni, the ATAR of architecture degree is only 65. I thought that rather entering into the higher ATAR universities will be benefitial in that case.
The evaluation was based on what I reasearched for the future careers and unis in Australia because, I did not know that I won't be livig in Australia then. However, when having the interview I had told the teacher about my departure from Australia to Korea next year. Thus, my sudying in both SACE or IB exam systems won't be counted. It was a sudden situation that I was going back to Korea so, I really had no ideas too. However, I told the teacher who did my interview that, my studies in Korea will continue and there are 6 different subjects I have to do in Korea which are, Korean, Engish, Maths, Korean History, world history and Geography next year and year after. I believe my English skills that I learnt by living in English speaking country will be benefitial that I am confident that I'll be above the average of the other students in English.
Throughout the interview, I could comfortably and easily have conversation with the teacher than I expected and feel as if the teacher understands my strengths and cheers for my future no matter what kinds of the careers I wish to do.
